ATHLETICS: Boys & Girls Basketball Advances to 2nd Round of Playoffs

Congratulations to the Ridge View Basketball teams on their 77-47 wins over Greer Tuesday night (girls) and 86-44 win over BHP Wednesday night (boys) in a 1st Round Playoff matchup played at Ridge View High School.

The Girls will travel to Wren High School for a 2nd Round matchup on TODAY, February 15 at 7 pm.  Wren High School is located at 905 Wren School Rd, Piedmont, SC 29673.  

The Boys will host Walhalla for a 2nd Round matchup on Saturday, February 16 at 7 pm at Ridge View High School.  

Tickets for the game are $6.  There will be a Spirit Bus leaving at 4 pm from behind the gym today for the Girls game for Ridge View Students and Staff only.  Those interested must purchase their bus ticket for $5 by 3 pm on today in the Main Office at Ridge View High School.  Spirit Bus riders need to bring $6 for their game ticket and an ID to gain entry to the bus.  It would be a good idea to bring some money for concessions as the bus will not be making a stop for dinner.  Space is limited!

Be reminded that the district's clear bag policy is in place.  No Richland 2 passes are accepted.  Only ticketed fans and SCHSL pass holders will gain entry.

ACTIVITIES: Congratulations to Mr. & Miss Ridge View!

Last Saturday, contestants in the Mr. & Miss Ridge View Pageant took a trip "Around the World!" Each of the eleven contestants represented a country of their choosing and displayed clothing, accessories, and more related to it throughout the competition. They were judged according to their performance during an in-person interview, talent, casual wear, evening wear, and on-stage question. Congratulations to the following winners: Mr. Congeniality-Rodriguez Wilson, Miss Congeniality-Marquise Williams, Partnership Prince-Reilly Arford, Partnership Princess-Marquise Williams, Mr. Scholarship-Rodriguez Wilson, Miss Scholarship-Marquise Williams, Grand Talent-Aaron Atkins, Miss Freshman-Isis Trapp, Miss Sophomore-Zamiyah Johnson, Miss Senior-Marquise Williams, Mr. Ridge View-Aaron Atkins, Miss Ridge View-Jada Rose Hall.

ACADEMICS: Scholars Juniors Advocate for Teen Relationship Violence Reform

Ridge View juniors, Grace Miller and Elizabeth Keels, and sophomores, Thomas Kane and Traniah Neal, from the Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law Magnet are advocating for the rights and legal protection of all teenage victims of relationship violence in South Carolina. Currently, they are working on getting a bill, H. 3075, passed. This bill, also known as The Teen Dating Violence Prevention Act, will ensure that teenagers 16 years of age and older will be able to file for a protective order, as opposed to the laws current age restriction which is only 18 and older. This bill will also ensure the inclusion of teen dating violence education in the comprehensive health education curriculum. As of now, the Teen Dating Violence Prevention Act has been prefiled, introduced and read for the first time to the house, and referred to Committee on Judiciary. In order to get this passed, the next step is for Grace Miller, Elizabeth Keels, Thomas Kane, and Traniah Neal, along with the help of their magnet director, Nicole Walker, to attend and testify at an upcoming subcommittee hearing. They will also be presenting to other schools to educate students and bring more awareness to this issue in the community.

Military Salutes Our Principal

Congratulations to our principal Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth, who earned top honors for her support of the military. She is the recipient of the 2019 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Ridge View has one of the highest concentrations of students of military families in Richland School District Two. More than 157 students have military connections. Additionally, some 20 teachers at Ridge View serve in the military or are veterans.
