Blazers Learn To Waltz

In Mrs. Harrison's Dance 1 class students learn about Social Dance, Dance Fitness (Zumba), and the Art of Dance (Ballet, Jazz, and Modern).  Currently, students are in the Social Dance unit, which begins in the 17th Century and will briskly move to the present.  Students will learn dances such as the Waltz, Minuet, Foxtrot, Swing, Big Apple, Charleston, Shag (SC State Dance), as well as various current dances.  Last week they learned to Waltz, which is considered the "mother of all dances."  According to Mrs. Harrision, "The students have been focused and appear to be having fun while learning a classical dance style."  Kadeja Booker agrees with Mrs. Harrison and says, "I didn't know Waltzing could be so much fun!"  Darius Dantzer thought it was hard at first and didn't think he would be able to learn how to waltz, but in the end "Mrs. Harrison broke it down so [the waltz was] easy."  And now he "can do it anywhere and lead a dance."
Darius Dantzler and Lacoria Williams practice a turn.
