The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is a great and useful tool that can help you to identify and explore a career path that is right for you. The ASVAB has 10 sections and assesses Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Mathematics Knowledge, and Science which is comparable to both the SAT and ACT. The five additional ASVAB sections cover vocational areas like electronics information, automotive information, shop information, mechanical comprehension and assembling objects.
Although some sections are similar with the ACT/SAT, the ASVAB has key differences. For example, the Science section of the ASVAB tests students' knowledge of facts learned in high school physical, earth, life, and space science. The ACT tests scientific reasoning and often asks students to interpret given scientific data or charts. Also the math section of the ASVAB does not cover as many topics as the SAT/ACT. It is recommended that ASVAB test takers review algebra, geometry measurements, interest problems, and number properties. The SAT/ACT includes questions related to algebraic functions and graphs and trigonometry.
As you can see the ASVAB is not just for students wanting to enroll in the military. So click on the image to access the ASVAB online tutorial. Another great resource to add to your Testing Tool Belt.
