Democratic state Representative Mia McLeod held a town hall meeting on Monday, October 28th to discuss domestic violence in South Carolina. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, Solicitor Dan Johnson, and representatives from Sistercare and the Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault were in attendance. South Carolina ranks worst in the nation for violence against women based on the latest report by the Violence Policy Center. According to this report South Carolina's rate 2.54 women are killed per 100,000 people, which is more than twice the national average. This rate represents 61 known deaths.
