Congratulations to the Ridge View Boys Golf Team for qualifying for the AAAA Upper State Golf Tournament. The Blazers placed 4th in the region tournament. The Blazers were lead by Jacob Fink who shot an 84. Jacob recorded two eagles on the day on par five holes. Christian Wilson shot a 92 and Brent Wilson shot a 93 to help the team secure their spot.

COMMUNITY: Ridhland 2 Order of the Flame Nominations Are Open
The Richland Two Order of the Flame has been established by the Richland Two Education Foundation to recognize graduates, former employees and friends of Richland School District Two. These individuals, whose civic, professional or volunteer activities, may have enriched the lives of others in the district through significant contributions of time, talent or resources, their community or their profession. Potential inductees may have contributed in an extraordinary way — including enhancing the quality of education in Richland Two; improving district programs; enhancing the welfare of others by outstanding leadership and service; or dedicating themselves to a profession that resulted in products, services or activities that entertained, helped or inspired others.
Awardees of the Richland Two Order of the Flame have represented the district with honor, humility and high moral standards.

Registration for the 2018–2019 school year begins April 16, 2018, FOR RETURNING STUDENTS, students already enrolled in Richland Two for the 2017–2018 school year. On behalf of the South Carolina Department of Education, Office of Career and Technology Education, we congratulate Zipporah Little on being named our 2018 recipient of the South Carolina CATE School Counselor of the Year. This award recognizes her leadership in delivering a quality career guidance program while providing a seamless transition for the students of Ridge View High School as each enter our global economy and the world of work. Mrs. Little will be honored at the 2018 SC Education and Business Summit to be held in Greenville, SC in June.

ACTIVITIES: Blood Drive, May 3rd
Ridge View will be hosting its Spring Heart Health Blood Drive on Thursday May 3rd from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM in the Ridge View Small Gym. Almost everyone during their life will know someone who needs a blood transfusion; and you can help by giving blood on this day to help someone who is in need.

ACTIVITIES: Student Council Receives 2018 National Gold Council of Excellence
Ridge View High School Student Council was recognized as a 2018 National Gold Council of Excellence. Earning the award was no small task and the students’ success is a testament to the leadership and support they are given by Dr. Mack-Foxworth and the Blazer family to the students and Ms. Wimmer, Student Activities Adviser. The RVH Student Council is an integral part of Ridge View and our educational mission.
In addition to receiving the 2018 National Gold Council of Excellence, Student Council received the following awards:
- 3rd place, Ridge View Rocks (inclusion) project,
- 3rd place, Senior Sunrise(spirit) project,
- 3rd place, Dr. Mack Sound of Music video,
- 2nd place, Dance, Dance, Dance (lunch dances in gym) projects
Victoria Jackson, Student Body President, was inducted into the Terry McCoy Student Council Hall of Fame and recognized for her State Office position and 7 years of service. Ms. Wimmer was recognized for 15 years of service. Congrats goes to Student Council and Ms. Wimmer for a job well done.

ATHLETES: Boys Basketball State Champs Invited to Grand Opening
Just a heads up that Bi-Lo is holding a Grand Opening Ceremony on April 28 at their store in Sandhills. They invited our State Championship Boys Basketball team to come out to take pictures and sign autographs for this event! The event will be from 7:30 - 9:00 AM.
ACTIVITIES: DECA Wins Big!
Nine DECA students from Ridge View High School competed in the State DECA Competition in Charleston, during the weekend of March 2-4, 2018. The Ridge View DECA State Team won BIG! Congratulations to the following students who competed against DECA students from across South Carolina and placed in the following categories.
- Keianna Benson and Kaylan Cooper: 1st Place, Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making
- Victoria James and Averiona McDonald: 4th Place, Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan
- Destiny Jenkins and Aysenur Erkek: Top Ten, Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan
- Kayla Jenkins: Top Ten, Principles of Business Management and Administration
Jenkins and Erkek represented Ridge View as Voting Delegates and was elected as the state officers for next year. Benson, Cooper, James, and McDonald each received a $1,500 Scholarship as a result of their performance at the State Competition.
A special congratulation goes to Mrs. Pat Jackson, Ridge View’s DECA Advisor. As one of only two state-wide honorees, she was named an Honorary Life Member and received the DECA Advisor's Award. Mrs. Jackson has been the DECA Advisor for Ridge View High School since the inception of the DECA program in 1997, and has served on the SC DECA Board of Directors for several years.
Students who placed at State Competition qualified to represent Ridge View, Richland 2, and South Carolina at The DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, GA on April 21-24, 2018.
Ridge View would like to congratulations Mrs. Pat Jackson and the Ridge View DECA Team for an awesome performance at the DECA State Competition and look forward to hearing more exciting news after the International Competition.
ACTIVITIES: Ridge View HOSA Takes Regionals
20 students attended the 2018 State HOSA Leadership Conference in Charleston and were the definition of TEAM in all they did and represented! Seventeen of them experienced the first round test; and of those, sixteen qualified for the second round, where they showed off the application of their skills related to their specified area.
Ridge View remained the top in the state for Creative Problem Solving, which included Faith Thompson, Iyanna Chapman & Miranda Hurt. Faith & Iyanna placed first last year. This was Miranda's first year. Other winners include:
- Averiona McDonald, 2nd in Medical Assisting
- Joy Van Kallen, 3rd in Physical Therapy
- Ericka Van Alstine, 2nd in Knowledge Test for Pathophysiology
All of these students will compete at the International HOSA Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas the last week in June!
Tobi Ariyo (Pathophysiology) and Makayla Sims (Nursing Assisting) also placed in the Top Five for their areas and still have a chance to go to nationals. Makayla also received a $500 scholarship. Hats off to all the competitors! Good luck at Nationals.
ATHLETICS: RVH Golf Classic, June 12
You are invited to attend and support the Ridge View Golf Classic benefiting the RVHS Athletic Department on Tuesday, June 12th at The Spur at Northwoods. It will be a great opportunity for you to play a great golf course while helping Ridge View Athletics!
Ridge View High School has long been known as having first-class athletic programs, but that does not come without much needed support from our community. Funds raised from this tournament will go directly to the RVH Athletic Department and will aid them in purchasing much needed equipment and help with other vital needs for their programs.

COMMUNITY: American Legion Needs Volunteers
The Wall That Heals, a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, is coming to the Camden area from May 3 - 6. The display includes the names of the more than 5,800 U.S. service members who died during the Vietnam War. It will be located at the Camden Historical Site and open to the public 24-hous a day starting at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, May 2nd and closing at 1:30 pm on Sunday, May 6th,
In addition, American Legion Post #17 in Camden is looking for 110 volunteers to work 4-hour shifts, between 4:00 pm on May 2nd and 1:30 pm on May 6th. Volunteers may sign up at Signupgenius.com or call (803) 427-0470.
COMMUNITY: SIC Leadership Nominations Due May 3rd
Leadership is an important ingredient for all successful organizations and the School Improvement Council (SIC) is no exception. Ridge View High School’s award-winning School Improvement Council is a great place to get involved, and if you have experience in SIC leadership or have previously been involved with SIC and wish to become engaged in a leadership capacity, now is the time to act.
The offices of SIC Chairperson, SIC Vice Chairperson, and SIC Secretary/Recorder will be voted upon at the May 7, 2018, SIC meeting. If you are interested in being considered for any of the three available leadership offices, please submit your name, a brief bio (including a statement as to why you’d like to be considered), and the office for which you wish to be considered, to the principal, Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth at bmack@richland2.org. The deadline for submissions is May 3, 2018.

ACADEMICS: Scholars Academy Magnet begins AP Research Presentation
Special thanks to Scholars Academy Magnet for Business and Law senior Caitlin Brewer for being the very first student to present an oral defense for our inaugural AP Research class. Brewer, who presented on the psychological effects of shaming women, is part of a cohort of students in the Ridge View Scholars Academy working towards completion of the first AP Capstone certifications in the district. Good luck to these amazing young people!
ARTS: Important Information for All Band Parents & Students
ATTENTION all Band Parents & Students! Have you submitted your band contract for the 2018-2019 school year? The deadline was Monday, April 16th. Click here for a copy of the contract. Every student, except for Seniors, received a packet in class and received a grade for turning their forms in on time. Students must submit a contract even if they do not plan to participate in band during the 2018-2019 school year. By submitting a contract, Mr. King, our band director, can plan accordingly. Also, the first payment for marching band members of $100 was due as well.
The schedule for Solo & Ensemble is now available and can be accessed by clicking on the image. Students should be practicing their music and have an original piece of music available for the judge and the student. No copies of music are allowed. All RV students participating will perform on Saturday, April 28th so check the schedule for specific times.

COMMUNITY: PTSO Fundraiser Coordination Mtg, April 25th
The Ridge View High School Parent Teacher Student Organization will be selling barbeque plates and chicken on a stick at the Sparkleberry County Fair on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th. All proceeds go towards special programs and educational events for Ridge View students. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mr. Lawrence at at.lawrence@yahoo.com. A volunteer coordination meeting will be held in the Ridge View Media Center on April 25th, from 6-7 PM.

ATHLETICS: Boys Golf Beats Westwood
Congratulations to the Boys Golf team for their victory over Westwood High School. The Blazers secured the victory for Coach Gilmer on his birthday with Jacob Fink shooting a season low 40. Brent Wilson also helped the Blazers win shooting a 45. Lancaster won the match overall shooting an impressive 150. The final scores were Lancaster 150 Ridge View 222 Westwood 231. The Blazers will battle for a place in the Upper State Tournament when they compete in the Region Tournament at Lancaster Golf Club on Wednesday, April 25.

ACADEMICS: Midlands CATE Counselor of the Year, Mrs. Zipporah Little
Congratulations: Mrs. Little is named Midlands CATE Counselor of the Year
The SC CATE School Counselor of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding school counselor who exemplifies outstanding achievement in building and delivering a high-quality career guidance program educating the academic and employability skill set needs in high demand for 21st-century students. The school counselor exemplifies outstanding achievement in serving and support career and technology education students, faculty, and parents.
One finalist will be selected by each regional career specialist as aligned with the state’s Workforce Investment Act (WIA) regions.
A panel representing the SC Department of Education, Office of Career and Technology Education will review the finalists to select the SC CATE School Counselor of the Year. The award will be presented at the 2018 Education and Business Summit in June. Best wishes to Mrs. Little as she now competes for the SC CATE Counselor of the Year.
